Natural and Black Colour Block Woven Laundry Basket
Unique and expertly hand woven, the KUNDI laundry basket sports a stylish black band against a biscuit-coloured base dyed with soot.
Created by one of the most experienced members of the women?s weaving cooperatives in the rural Eastern Region of Kenya, this versatile laundry hamper is hand woven from local sisal fibres. The stiff leaves of this fibrous shrub are harvested, rolled and dyed by hand before six days of weaving begins. Each laundry basket takes forty balls of sisal to complete, whilst two expert leather workers (known locally as ?fundi?) produce KUNDI?s leather trim and handles.?
Deep and strong enough for storing logs by the fireplace yet equally soft and supple enough for bathroom or nursery storage, this versatile laundry basket can be put to use all over the home as your needs change.
Our woven laundry baskets each tell an important story about collaboration and sustainable living. THE LAUNDRY BASKETS.
Bring a splash of colour to laundry days with one of our beautiful, hand woven laundry baskets – all handmade in Kenya. Choose from our colour block sisal baskets with leather carry handles or opt for a sturdy, lidded laundry basket woven from doum palm leaf. Each laundry hamper takes up to six days to weave by hand, and all can be repurposed around the home as log baskets or toy storage, for example. Our sisal laundry baskets are a particularly good size for blankets and throws, slippers and gloves and hats, whilst our lidded doum palm baskets come in three handy sizes, plus a smaller basket in round and oval shapes. Our range of ethically produced laundry baskets offer something practical and beautiful for every household – even the largest family!
