Small Blue Kuba Pattern Kisii Soapstone Bowl
Working with soft soapstone found in the Kisii District of Kenya, Gusii artisans hand carve small decorative bowls for use throughout the home. Artisans in a Nairobi workshop give the plain stone pieces character by hand dyeing the stone a rich blue and black, and adding incised details reminiscent of the patterns on Kuba cloth.
