The mask “Elephant King” is used by the Bamoun in Cameroon during the transition of the regency from the father to the son in the throne of royal families.

From the 15th century onwards they became successful traders and used the rivers as transport routes. Their empire was decentralized and held together by kings. The power was distributed to local chiefs.
