The goal of the Jane Goodall Institute through South Africa’s chimpanzee sanctuary, Chimp Eden, is to rescue chimpanzees that have been orphaned, survived the bush meat trade, been traded in the illegal pet market, and been rescued from being traumatized for entertainment in circuses, beach resorts and night clubs. Established in 2006, Chimp Eden is the first and only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa. Situated outside Nelspruit, Chimp Eden is home to chimps that have been misplaced from their natural habitats in Africa.
