Goodbye Malaria aims to eradicate malaria in Mozambique, while investing in Africa’s future, creating employment and protecting, changing and saving lives. This bracelet was inspired by Africa – it represents the continent’s heart and soul and the hope for better, happier lives and opportunities for the people of Africa. The yellow beads represent sunshine, life, and happiness to communities and families who have been in the dark – families that have been smitten by the disease. The red beads symbolize ‘the heart’, which represents ‘life’. Inspiration behind the red beads comes from the stamens of the Citronella flower – without the stamens there is no life.

Read moreBring a little joy to laundry day with a handwoven YULE laundry basket, made from doum palm leaf. This collection comes in three sizes, with chic grey slate stripes against a natural base.
These fabulous laundry baskets have travelled across the shores of the Jade Sea and the deserts of North Western Kenya – along a transparent and ethical supply chain – to our HQ in the Cotswolds. To make one of these baskets yours is to support the livelihoods of the weavers who produced them, supporting the growth of the developing Turkana economy.
Turkana is Kenya?s largest county and known for making up part of the famous ?Cradle of Mankind?, where some of the earliest evidence of human evolution has been found. This is also a part of Africa infamous for severe drought, which the Turkana have suffered from since the eighties.
In 1992, a Catholic charity initiated a basketry project in Turkana, to help start to integrate this marginalized corner of Kenya with the wider Kenyan economy. ?Today, 300 women from six local villages weave baskets here as a means of income, mostly taught the craft by their own mothers and grandmothers. ?

Each basket bag takes up to four days to complete before being sent to a local leather works to be fitted with beautifully supple cow hide straps.
These basket bags are made from wool from second hand jumpers, woven around local sisal grass. The weavers regularly visit the ‘gikombas’ (clothes markets) to select and purchase colourful woollen jumpers, which are washed and unravelled at home into separate balls of coloured wool – and then woven. The bags are finished in a local leather works, being fitted supple cow hide straps for carrying.
